No temporary chit!
The old rule is gone.
I'm a big fan of the 8th edition rules... and to me there seems to be no gray area on this issue. The rules clearly state that when a weapon is used for the first time against the monsters, a Weapon Effect Chit is drawn for that weapon and placed next to the illustration on the Weapons Display. That covers it all.
Even if multiple uses are made of an untried weapon, the effect drawn on the first use applies to all subsequent uses on that turn.
It is highly advisable for the crew not to use several copies of the same weapon on the same turn when it's effect is unknown.
