It kinda makes sense though sense a good portion of the rebels were ex-imperial.
Not only that, but I believe the majority of Rebel naval officers were trained at the Imperial Academy, so it makes sense that they continue to use the same doctrines they were schooled in. Having said that, while squads were built from a typical Imperial perspective, their actual operating doctrine was not. The Imperials built plentiful and cheap starfighters without hyperdrive capability (partly to stop defections) which docked with larger capital ships in order to travel through hyperspace, while the rebels rarely used starfighters without hyperdrive capability (and if they did, it was mostly as defense ships), and deployed them in smaller numbers (typically in hit & run attacks). There were so few ships in the Rebel fleet that it became extremely important to not only protect the ones they had using shields and superior tactics, but also to make them as independent as possible so that they could spread them out in multiple operations without needing to organize capital ship escorts.
As for typical TIE Advanced squads, there is no such thing. Unless I'm entirely mistaken the TIE Advanced never left the prototype stage, instead serving as a springboard towards other starfighter designs (like the TIE Interceptor). Vader's TIE Advanced was the only one of its kind, though later iterations were produced in larger numbers. Just be aware that "larger numbers" is relative here. I understand that only about 30 of them were ever produced, and even they were mere prototypes.
This is why I'm not planning on getting more than one TIE Advanced for this game. It just doesn't make much sense to use more than one, from a lore perspective.
