Thread: 3012:: Rules:: Rules Variant to allow for more deck building and longer game times.

So far my group has been playing this game quite a bit and we always end the game similar ways... And that is having decks that barely make for what would be considered a half deck, usually about 20 cards. We love the game but could barely call it a "deck builder". We rarely got equipment and rarely purchase allies. Kind of a shame really seeing that we all felt like we should be playing weapons and allies, but we seldom had the 10 gold to get the awesome cards, unless a card was flipped like "clumsy ally". So we sat down and came up with a simple flip of the rules to make this happen. The answer is, altering the encounter decks.

Level one encounter deck should have the same number of cards equal to the number of players.

2 players = 2 level one encounters

Level two encounter deck should have number of players times 1.5 (rounded up)

2 players = 3 level two encounters, 3 players = 5... and so on.

The level three and four are left alone. This variant has allowed us to not have to turtle and added time to the game and made us think way more about acquisition and how to actually build a deck and try to go for "themed" decks.

Gotta say, I love this game even with the base rules, this was just something we came up with to make things a little more strategic. So your not sitting on a deck of level one encounters and no other cards to make things happen.
