I think a match would give you more balance and balance gives you a certain kind of fun: the thrill of competition to test your mettle against an opponent. However, "Paper, Rock, Scissors" is a perfectly balanced game, but it's lacking something. It can be really fun in tournament play but really isn't worth playing in a casual setting. What it lacks is interesting decisions.

Now, Cosmic Encounters is a completely unbalanced game. But it's full of interesting decisions. I love to play it casually, but I wouldn't see it improved at all in a tournament setting. (That is to say playing in a tournament would be no more fun then just playing a bunch of games.)

Netrunner, like most CCGs and LCGs, leans way more towards interesting decisions and balance. There is a trade of as a designer, because the more elements a game has you lose balance and add hopefully interesting decisions. Moreover, being asymmetrical, they offer different types of interesting decisions. The runner game is more risk management, where as the corp is a lot of bluffing. I'm not surprised many players would prefer one style.
