Well Tony, if the poll is anything to go by it hasn't happened here... or is it just your few rounds of playing the game that count?
I'm actually ignoring our first few rounds of play. Our first game, the Imperials focused on the Y-Wings, being afraid of their Ion cannon. That's the only time the Rebels have won.
Since then, Imperial squad movement and focus fire has improved in every game, and it seems like an uphill battle for the Rebel forces from the get go. My game last night, we had a newbie not just to X-Wing, but board games in general, on the Imperial team in a 3 v 3. Her 3 TIEs spent the first few turns completely in the back field, turning the wrong way, and not contributing to combat one way or the other.
Imperials won that match with 5 untouched ships and 1 TIE with 1 hull damage. 2 of the newbie's ships were blown up, and her ship was the other TIE with hull damage. We blew up 1 of the experienced player's TIEs.
That was a 150pt scenario.
I think if you put the better, more experienced players on the Rebel side, and they are sneaky, and have an opening strategy that is wildly different than what the Imperials expected, you can bring the numbers advantage down to 2:1 or slightly better. In this ball park, the Rebel forces seem to do a LOT better. However, any time the numbers are higher than 2:1, there doesn't seem to be much hope for the rebels.
Again, I think this is coming down to specifically the Academy Pilot being too good for its 12 point cost, and the Y-Wing being too poor for its 23 point cost (with Ion cannon). This seems to be the crux of what is priced incorrectly in my mind.
