Most expansions are. They're just there for people that really enjoy the game and want to add some variety. You seem not to enjoy the game all that well, so you're right: don't buy the expansion and play something else with turtling players.

I'd probably not include the expansion with slow card readers either, but besides that and 'first gamers' I'll probably include the cards in every game. Since it's easy enough to read your new card after your turn is over, and still be in time for your next turn without delay.

That would actually be a nice 'faster' variant, if not for the setup time and the 'lemme read my cards first and gimme a minute to choose' turtling...
