It's a Hoz mat I had from Starfleet Battles. In X-Wing we ignore the grid, though it does help in initial set up.
It's 4x3 so a little larger than regulation, but we also often play multiplayer games of 4 player with 75pts each so it feels about right. That's where we got in the habit of group asteroid from two core sets (because it's not twice the surface area) together to make some 'big asteroids' effectively.
