You have to separate Runners from Corp.

Playing Runners is like a straight-forward card game: get cards -> play cards. Of course you'll need to deal against bluffs and to risk some Runs, but nothing more.

Playing Corp is where the fun begins and is where you'll see those great results and who wins the game. You'll need to know your deck really well, all the ICE and the amount you have, the "End the Run" subs and how many you got in your deck, the ICE position on the table, the bluffs and traps and investments...

I really think that what makes a player in this game is as well he/she plays with Corp.

On a side note, I really wished to share your opinion about COC:LCG but... I don't!
Along with Warhammer: Invasion, COC is one of the most boring and broken card games out there. :(
