Is any game really worth it?
I guess it really depends on how much you're going to play the game.
Hours of enjoyment vs. total cost...

The cost of entry is steep.
I am waiting for my two base sets to arrive and am planning on buying maybe another 10 units. (Can't wait for the Falcon)

So $150 for a game?... A really fun game!!!
I think it is worth it...

I agree. I think the core set is enough for "contributor" status in a group that plays big games. For example, if four players each bought just a core set, that's 8 TIEs and 4 X's zooming around the table among four people. Plenty of material (even dice, rulers, and templates) to put together a range of scenarios. A minimal investment that pays gaming dividends.

Then suppose each of the four bought just one different expansion. Now they have all the materials the game has to offer and open up the possibilities even further. And as just one of the players, you've only spent $55 retail max.

But if each player in the group bought one of everything...then individual investment is $100 at retail (less if you buy online) and the group could put on one heck of a massive game. Even if one of the group couldn't make it, you'd still be able to put on a huge game. And if you're alone from the rest you have enough material to do any 7-ship scrum you could think of.
