Honestly it's not unusual for companies to keep the size of print runs confidential. Some companies do tell, but really when was the last time you heard how many 7 Wonders or Kingdom Builder or Battlestar Galactica games were printed in a run?The only reason people wonder about Eclipse is because the demand has far exceeded the supply since the game's release. But knowing the numbers doesn't change the analysis: we all know that they printed too few. If they told us a number, what would the next question be anyway? Probably something like "then why not print more"? And really, that gets into their business models and operations, and isn't our place.
Should they have printed more? Hindsight says oh yes! But I can't think of a single benefit they'd get from sharing those numbers.
