1) The tank cannot assault once shaken and the attacker may choose to continue the assault with the infantry alone. He may also choose to not proceed with an assault. Per Section 5.4 the wording in the first paragraph states assaults are resolved as soon as the attacker moves into the defender's hex. Thus if they stop before entering the hex there is no shaken penalty as the assault never occurred.

Units on the ground can shoot onto a hill edge, but not onto the hill. Got it.

Correct.

Units on a hill, however CAN shoot and use LOS to call arty or indirect fire on all ground units NOT blocked by a level 1 obstacle. Correct?

Units on a hill (level 1), not hill edge, are not in LOS to units at ground level (level 0). Think of the effect a plateau would have and apply it here. If the unit on the hill is part of a formation with a recon unit or the CO/2IC, and either have LOS to the target hex, and the unit is capable of indirect fire then the unit may make an indirect fire attack against the target. (2.3.3.4)

Units on a hill may fire at units on another hill as long as blocking terrain does not impede LOS. (4.1 Hill LOS)

Units on a hill edge hex (Level 1) may fire at units at ground level (Level 0) provided the unit on ground level is not directly behind a Level 1 obstacle (woods, urban, hill). Ground hexes directly behind Level 1 obstacles are blind spots for units on a hill edge. (4.1 Hill LOS)

Here is a thread I started where the designer and others clarified LOS. There are some useful graphic aids that illustrate the above jargon very well. LOS Questions - ANSWERED

Hope that helps,

Ryan
