I agree,and would be happy with these too.
I think diplomacy would be the easiest to expand. Have a separate card where the population cubes go for each diplomat. Have rows that grant powers to each player with cubes on the card, but have them increase in strength as more cubes are in each row. However, at the end of the game, the diplomat bonus only applies to a player with the most cubes in any one row.a
