My two cents on the whole mess.

Am I happy about the delay?: No. I bought this as my Christmas present to myself, and given our household budget right now it's likely the only one my family can afford to give me this year.

Am I upset enough to want my money back?: Again, no. I've been drooling over this project for six months now. Another six will just make it my 2013 Father's Day present.

Furthermore a year's delay is hardly a record in the games business coughcoughDuke Nukemcough or even for Steve Jackson Games. While there's always the bad example of GURPS Low Tech, I waited nearly a decade for my playtester's copy of GURPS Vorkosigan. (and I'm still wiling to argue they should have given Sgt. Bothari the Ugly disad).

Compared to say, Hasbro, or even TSR in its day, Steve Jackson is a small company, and Ogre DE as it was planned (and replanned, repeatedly) is a frigging enormous project, several times more complicated than putting out Yet Another Munchkin Product. It was a very painful learning experience for them. I'm willing to give them slack for that, and hope they use the lessons for Kickstarter Car Wars when it finally happens.

Steve Jackson blew the planned schedule. Badly. He admits that. I forgive him, because I've been buying his products for almost thirty years now, because Ogre DE looks incredible, and while some of his games have been duds (Car Wars 5e) that's never been because he deliberately slacked off and just pushed some crap out the door to feed the fanboys.

Finally, if you don't accept my opinion, try this lady's:

Steve Jackson gets NO bad words from those of us who worked with him -- he ALWAYS paid, on time, no excuses or bad accounting. He gave us plenty of lead-time on a job, and paid for rush orders. He outlined jobs completely, so we could work at speed. Whatever anybody gets from Steve is bound to be good.
